Past Entrant Q&A with Nikki from the Liverpool Plains Visitor Information Centre
We’ve quizzed some of our past entrants to see what they think of the Regional Tourism Awards. Find out their top tips for entrants, why they enter the awards and where they’ve found help along the way.
Up first is Nikki Robertson, Manager of the Liverpool Plains Visitor Information Centre on the New England Highway in Willow Tree.
How many times have you entered the Regional Tourism Awards? Have you also entered at state level?
5 times, state once
What category (or categories) have you entered?
Visitor Information Services
What reason/s did you have for entering (or continuing to enter each year)? If you’ve entered more than once, have they changed over time?
It was really my training to run the Visitor Information Centre to start with! And then I found if I enter every year, I take stock of the business and also benchmark my achievements from year to year.
Did you get help from anyone with your submission?
I attended a workshop, a webinar, utilised the draft submission review and engaged a consultant to review my submission. Judge’s feedback is fabulous – I did all of the above!
How have you promoted your awards success?
Using logo on our email; display the certificate, media coverage, social media
Will you be entering in 2019? Why or why not?
No, not this year, due to personal commitments in April. We have great things happening for the next qualifying period though, so watch out 2020!
What would you say to someone who’s considering entering the awards for the first time? Do you have any tips or advice for preparing a submission?
Write the submission yourself, because you learn so much about your own business! Do get help by attending workshops and webinars, talk to somebody who enters the awards, take your time and be organized! Don’t do it at the last minute – it is a lot of work but worth it!
Take notes and organise yourself during the year for the next awards! Having all the facts and figures at your fingertips when starting to write is essential!
